================================ Launch an instance from a volume ================================ You can boot instances from a volume instead of an image. To create a non-bootable volume, do not create it from an image. The volume must be entirely empty with no partition table and no file system. #. This can be useful when you want more control over the created volume, such as enabling encryption. #. The latter can be specified multiple times. When you terminate the instance, both disks are deleted. Boot an instance with a 512 MB swap disk and 2 GB ephemeral disk. .. code-block:: console $ openstack server create \ --flavor FLAVOR --image IMAGE --network NETWORK \ --ephemeral size=2 --swap 512 --wait test-server .. note:: The flavor defines the maximum swap and ephemeral disk size. You cannot exceed these maximum values.
