Change bed303e9b47b5aef3a9e2d6a5da4b5891e9e6689 introduced the ability to set timeout without blocking, but this caused a few problems. - The acquire method has now different arguments according to a backend driver being used - The change broke the existing usage with blocking=<number> This addresses these two problems.
