Matt Riedemann da0dbd7d31 Cleanup instance device metadata object code ...

This code was obviously copied from how we did things
with pci requests, e.g. the db_requests parameter.

This change uses a more appropriate parameter name
for device metadata loaded from the database, and
also fixes an alignment nit.
