Nicholas Chase 0d21ce440d Convert HA Guide to XML
This patch does the initial conversion of the High Availability
Guide to XML from ASCIIdoc. No changes to the structure have
been made; this is simply the XML that gets generated by asciidoc.

This patch includes the following changes to the original HA
Guide:

- Content now appears in a single Docbook XML file, to be
broken out in the next patch
- Original ASCIIDoc files have been removed
- pom.xml has been updated to reflect the new source
- .gitignore has been updated so that it no longer ignores
  bk-ha-guide.xml

This patch is simply to establish the new structure. To prevent
front-end disruptions it includes all of the existing content,
but the content hasn't been audited or broken out into individual
files. For ease of review, that will be done in the next
patch(es).

(This patch also includes the corrections and changes that were
originally part of https://review.openstack.org/#/c/93856/2,
corrected so that list appears properly.)

OpenStack Manuals

This repository contains documentation for the OpenStack project.

For more details, see the OpenStack Documentation wiki page.

It includes these manuals:

  • Installation Guides
  • Cloud Administrator Guide
  • High Availability Guide
  • Security Guide
  • Virtual Machine Image Guide
  • End User Guide
  • Admin User Guide
  • Training Guides

In addition to the guides, this repository contains:

  • docs.openstack.org: www
  • tools for gating tests prior to merging documentation in this repo

Prerequisites

Apache Maven must be installed to build the documentation.

To install Maven 3 for Ubuntu 12.04 and later, and Debian wheezy and later:

apt-get install maven

On Fedora 15 and later:

yum install maven3

Building

The different manuals are in subdirectories of the openstack-manuals/doc/ directory.

For example, the root directory of the OpenStack User Guide is openstack-manuals/doc/user-guide.

To build a specific guide, look for a pom.xml file within a subdirectory, then run the mvn command in that directory. For example:

cd openstack-manuals/doc/user-guide/
mvn clean generate-sources

The generated PDF documentation file is:

openstack-manuals/doc/user-guide/target/docbkx/webhelp/user-guide.pdf

The root of the generated HTML documentation is:

openstack-manuals/doc/user-guide/target/docbkx/webhelp/user-guide/content/index.html

Testing of changes and building of the manual

Install the python tox package and run tox from the top-level directory to use the same tests that are done as part of our Jenkins gating jobs.

If you like to run individual tests, run:

  • tox -e checkniceness - to run the niceness tests
  • tox -e checksyntax - to run syntax checks
  • tox -e checkdeletions - to check that no deleted files are referenced
  • tox -e checkbuild - to actually build the manual

tox will use the openstack-doc-tools package for execution of these tests.
